When you take the time to whip the brie, you get a fluffy, super spreadable dip. The fig jam adds a touch of sweetness, and the chopped walnuts add delicious crunch.

How long does Whipped Brie take to make?

You can have this ready to go in 15 minutes! After removing the rinds from the brie wheels, you beat the cubed brie in a stand mixer for about 10 minutes. And not a moment less! At first it looks thick and sticky, but after that time it becomes lighter in colour and texture.

Let’s talk about the ingredients for Whipped Brie

Double-Cream Brie – This rich, unpasteurized cheese is known for it’s soft, flavourful texture. I would encourage you to buy the best brie you can afford, as the cheaper varieties tend to have added ingredients that ruin the whipping process.

Fig jam – a sweet spread made from ripe figs, and the perfect accompaniment to the rich brie.

Walnuts – Chopped walnuts add crunchiness to make this a well-balanced appetizer.

Can I Make Substitutions?

Brie – I haven’t tried other soft cheese, so I can’t recommend a substitution.

Fig jam – Use your imagination, and substitute any jam or fruit spread you like! You could choose your topping based on a holiday theme, for example, a spiced cranberry spread for Thanksgiving.

Walnuts – Instead of walnuts, try chopped hazelnuts, almonds, or candied pecans would be lovely.

Can Whipped Brie be Gluten-Free?

By serving a gluten-free crackers or baguette slice, this would be a gluten-free appetizer.

The Whipped Brie Method

First, cut the rinds off the brie wheels. I find using a serrated bread knife really helps this step.

Cut the brie into cubes, allow it to come to room temperature, and then add to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. The stand mixer worked really well for me, while trials using a food processor did not work.

Whip the brie for about 10 minutes. You will know it’s ready when it becomes light in colour and fluffy like vanilla frosting.

Spread the whipped brie in a decorative bowl or onto a plate and top with a few tablespoons of fig jam. How much fig jam you add is up to you and your preference!

Top with chopped walnuts and serve with sturdy crackers or toasted baguette slices.
