Homemade Cajun Seasoning
This homemade Cajun Seasoning will transform your recipe with smoky and spicy ingredients you mix together yourself! This easy-to-make blend of pantry staples will add amazing flavour to seafood, meat, pasta, beans, and more.
By making your own Cajun Seasoning, you will know exactly what’s in it — no mystery ingredients, hidden sugar or salt, or preservatives. If you’re on a restrictive diet, you can easily customize the blend to leave out ingredients you don’t want.
This recipe is a good dupe for Slap Ya Mama, a popular American brand of Cajun Seasoning.
How do you use Cajun Seasoning?
You can use it as a rub, to season meat, fish, or poultry.
It also works great as a marinade — add oil, and a little bit of acidity (such as lemon juice or vinegar). Add your meat to the marinade and stir to coat every surface. Cover and refrigerate until you want to cook it, anywhere from one hour to overnight.
How long does Homemade Cajun Seasoning take to make?
It takes only minutes to mix the spices together, and transfer to a container with a tight-fitting lid.
Can I Make Substitutions?
If you’re concerned about allergens, you should check with each manufacturer of the spices you’re using.
That being said, the only substitution I would make for this blend is to leave out the salt, if you’re trying to cut back on your sodium intake.
The recipe below makes ¼ cup, and I’ve also included instructions to make 1 tablespoon of the seasoning blend.
