Watermelon Margarita
Light and refreshing, this shaken Watermelon Margarita uses only 3 ingredients for a cooling cocktail on a hot day!
How long does Watermelon Margarita take to make?
This margarita takes only minutes to create. Blended watermelon juice, lime juice, and tequila are shaken together with ice, and then strained into a glass full of ice.
Let’s talk about the ingredients for Watermelon Margarita
Tequila – Use whatever tequila you like. I used reposado.
Watermelon – Choose a ripe one that will have lots of natural sweetness.
Lime juice – Essential! Freshly squeezed lime juice gives this cocktail some zip and balances the sweetness of the watermelon.
What are some variations for this Watermelon Margarita?
- Add ½ oz of St. Germain elderflower liqueur for even more sweetness
- Try another melon, such as cantaloupe
- Rim your glass: Rimming the glass with salt is optional; try rimming with Tajin (a chili lime salt) for that WOW factor
- Make it virgin: omit the alcohol and top up with club soda
- Garnish with a fresh herb such as mint or basil
The Watermelon Margarita Method
First, cut up your watermelon, removing the rind. Add to a blender and process until smooth. At this point, you can strain the watermelon juice if you desire. Don’t have a blender? You can use a potato masher or cocktail muddler to mash up the watermelon chunks.
In a cocktail shaker, add ice, watermelon juice, tequila, and freshly squeezed lime juice. Shake until cold.
To rim the glass: take a wedge of lime and run it around the edge of your glass. Dip the edge of the glass into salt or Tajin seasoning poured onto a plate.
Fill the glass with ice, and then strain the margarita from the shaker into the glass.
Garnish with lime wheels, and fresh herbs if you’re using.
